A Band Called "O" 4 Albums
You would not believe how difficult it is to find any information on this band and just as difficulty to get hold of their music. It looks as if I could get a copy of The Knife (On CD) for as little as £5 plus postage (which I will look into in a couple of weeks). The third album is also available on CD. Perhaps I will try what I did with Tim Blake - 1978 - Blake's New Jerusalem and that is whenever I went to a different town I made an enquiry under different names at many HMV shops and then suddenly I was told it was coming out soon. Perhaps there was a SUDDEN demand all over the country. (hee hee!)

1975 - OasisNow I definately remember seeing this in record shops - It is laughable that when I search for info on this on the web I get Oasis "A Band Called O" and not A Band Called O "Oasis". Dunno much about Oasis but I dont think they were around back then.
Oasis presents a confident and accomplished performance, and it's hard to find anything not to like about the O Band's second album. Several tracks, notably Some People, Amovin' and Fine White Wine, are approaching perfection. Recorded in December 1974 at Morgan Studios in London, and released during 1975.
Tracks:
01 Amovin'
02 Foolin' Round

Recorded at Olympic Studios in Barnes, from March to May in 1976 and released later that year. The album sleeve was designed by Joe Petagno, who also provided the faintly erotic full sized poster that was included with the original UK editions.
The Repertoire CD release from 1994 includes as bonus tracks the 7" single version of A Smile Is Diamond, the B Side Coasting, and Love Ain't A Keeper, which backed Almost Saturday Night from the subsequent album The Knife. Which are included here.

February 1977 saw the O Band in Scorpio Studios and Marquee Studios in London, recording what would prove to be the last of the band's four albums. "Almost Saturday Night" is a CCR cover and I saw it said somewhere that "Look To The Left - Look To The Right" was a Spirit song although I cannot find any refernce to this and I looked and looked - I reckon I have almost all Randy California that was released and it isn't in my collection and also it does not appear on the Tent Of Miracles website at all. The song does sound similar to the Spirit sound though so please comment on that if you know more.
Tracks:
01 Look To The Left, Look To The Right
02 Almost Saturday Night
03 I'm Gonna Leave You
04 Strange Lovin

Only sampled @128 hence the mix of first 2 albums in one post and second two in another. As far as I know there would be one or two other tracks released on singles and certainly there were 4 Peel Sessions as well as the Peel Tribute recording. I will be grateful for any links to Artwork and Higher Sampled songs by this excellent 70's rock outfit from the UK.

The Incredible String Band - 1966 - The Incredible String Band
Circulus - 1999 - Giantism [EP]
1 Little Big Song
2 The True Lover's Farewell
3 My Lady Carey's Dompe
4 Everglade
5 Sombrero Fallout
6 All You People
The tracks differ from various UK acid folkrock drenged pop to acid folk pop. Included is also a beautiful folk version of the medieval "My Lady Carey's Dompe". The folk pop songs are nice too. The accompanying instrumental work out is very colourful and with proportioned contrasts. In that way the usual way to interprete / elaborate traditionals has been beautifully enriched.
Other quotes from a review of Giantism in Ptolomaic Terrascope :
..."Fronted by the delightfully-named Emma Steele, a vocalist who has clearly spent an hour-or-two in the thrall of Celia Humpries, and with devastating skills invested throughout its membership, not least in the West-Coast guitar work of Eric Anholm and various instruments of Michal Tyack (guitar, lute, banjo and saz), Circulus are poised to storm the citadel of electric tradition in emphatic fasion."...
..."The songs are both craftily constructed and the instrumentation thrusts them into the realm of the extraordinary : make no mistake, Circulus are traditionalist with panache and folk-rock torchbleachers of Olympian proportions."

Man - 1972 - Live At The Padget Rooms Penarth
In response to a request I give you one of my favourite albums. This, and my copy of Captain Beefheart's "Trout Mask Replica" are my 2 most favoured musical possessions. There are one or two others, The Moody Blues "Question Of Balance" well... there are many many more prized possessions. Nektar, Gong and others were amongst my listening in the early 70's. I have a JohnMorgan album that I have never seen "Online".
Anyway. The first appearance of Many Are Called (But Few Get Up) came here, with the Daughter Of The Fireplace showcasing Deke wonderfully. The H. Samuel Jam comes straight from the earlier Man - 1970 release. I am happy to share (even if it is just 1 request that called for this). Man fans should read as I made a few Man Band posts on another Blog recently.
Oh. The links for this post (almost forgotten) = My wife is ironing and interrupting me as I watch a Dr Who episode from long ago. If I ever get some time I will sort out what the wife wants. These are true trials of family life (not what you see on TV = LOL). My 3 year old son loves Neil Innes, and I am very happy to play Neil Innes (as I love him too). I guess I will get a few posts in during the next week and concentrate on recovering the Blue - In Concet when I get back.
Ah yes...
Please Note. A request was made (on behalf) of the Man Band themselves to remove the Keystone "official" bootleg as it was something that allowed the Man Band to actually make money off (It's not something the Record Companies milk before the lads get any money). I understood what the person making the request meant and have deleted the uploads too. Sorry to anyone who wanted to download,, BUT, I do so like the Man Band and do not want to offend them. I have a lot of their original material Many Albums, CD's and all their DVD's. I consider myself a fan and would not want to cause Deke, Micky and the rest any financial loss.
Cochise - 1970 - Cochise
Zaragon on Myspace says of this:
Country rock to graciously court the country-hater. Think not of Creedence
or the Allmans; imagine instead a gritty Free or Patto-style unit who
sprinkle their dish with a tasty dash of twang, thereby spicing their forays
into dissonant aggression ("Moment and the End") and giving zest to their
exercises in compound song structure ("Painted Lady").
In answer to the request for more Cochise here is their first (with the third to follow).
1.Velvet Mountain
2.China
3.Trafalgar Day
4.Moment And The End
5.Watch This Space
6.59th Street Bridge Song
7.Past Loves
8.Painted Lady
This is a 256 rip complete with covers. Apparently there is a CD version with a bonus track that I do not have "Black Is The Colour".

1 A Sitting On A Gate
2 Alice Meets The Knights
3 Dance To The Talking Flower
4 Dum And Dee
5 Her Majesty Queen Alice
6 Jabberwocky
7 The Alice Theme
8 The March Of The Chessmen
9 Through The Looking Glass
In late 1968 they were approached by a local amateur dramatics group called The Ditching Players to provide a musical backdrop for a stage version of 'Alice Through The Looking Glass'. They used Lewis Carroll's surreal verse as the backdrop to the project and added a variety of studio trickery - backwards tapes, sound effects, distorted vocals etc. - to create a uniquely English hybrid of folk and pastoral psychedelia. Fifty copies were pressed initially which sold quickly and the duo pressed a further twenty-thirty. The sleeve artwork utilised a sketch by Sir John Tennel (the original Alice illustrator) of Alice encountering Tweedledee and Tweedledum! The duo continued to record a number of other albums over the next ten years - Tomorrow Come Some Day (a concept piece featuring a village threatened by motorway expansion), To Fly Away (credited to semi-ficticious group Agincourt) and A Game For All Who Know (credited to Ithaca). All had limited edition pressings of between fifty to a hundred. After a fifth album Friends the collaboration ended when Peter Howell, who composed all the music on Alice Through The Looking Glass was offered a more demanding job at the BBC and ceased to have time to pursue his hobby with John Fernando.

Framework - Skeleton (1968-69)
Framework was born of two mid-sixties San Diego bands, The Orfuns and The Centaurs. In one respect, these two bands were very different- The Orfuns were a hard-edged, arrogant garage punk outfit that wrote original songs (a handful of acetates in guitarist/vocalist Jerry McCann’s possession bear this out, and some of this material will see a release in the near future), whereas The Centaurs were a dance band that performed covers. Knowing full well by 1967 that performing original material was the key to both credibility and longevity in the rock scene, the new lineup looked to McCann as their lead singer and songwriter for their repertoire. Naturally, McCann quickly established himself as the creative focus of the band, which he named Framework. This new band, along with The Brain Police, was managed by the KB Artists company of San Diego. The first recording session arranged by this management/record label cooperative was to produce a single by Framework in January, 1968. The two songs recorded, “Iron Door” and “Funny Kind Of Sunshine” never made it to vinyl as planned. Instead, only a handful of acetates were made for the band and for the local underground radio station, KPRI. To date, this is the only known recording of the original five-piece Framework, and these tracks appear for the first time ever on Skeleton. Framework Mk.I persevered, despite internal conflict, until August 1968. When it became clear that the band could not continue as it was, McCann asked the advice of his friend David Randle of The Brain Police. By chance, Randle had only recently learned of Terry Fann, a singer and bass player looking for a band. Fann sat in with the band for a couple of weeks, and it became clear to (the ex-Orfuns) McCann and Carl Spiron that Fann was the ingredient they needed to head in a new direction: as a trio. Groups like Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience were exploring new territory as trios and were being credited as innovators; why not Framework? (buy it)

The Maggots - 2001 - This Condition Is Incurable
Stockholm's The Maggots explode with energy and a snotty sneer on this premium garage rock revival disc. Their fearsome fuzz and gruesome guitar sound is vital, visceral rock-n-roll. There was a garage wave in Scandinavia in the '80's and Mans P. Mansson (guitar/vocals) was part of that movement as part of Wylde Mammoths (one of the first bands to record for Crypt Records), Crimson Shadows and Friends. Bassist Steffen Hellstrom was also in Wylde Mammoths and Friends and Jonas Lundberg (drums) has a past in Slammer and A-Bombs.
These journeyman psychedelic rockers combine their experience and vigor for this more-than-suitable follow-up to their excellent debut LP, Get Hooked (Low Impact Records). Also, available on 10" vinyl, this CD edition includes three bonus tracks taken from the Gonna Make You Pay 7" on Bad Afro. While their originals rock sufficient to carry this disc to dawn and back, they include some righteous covers: a searing "Boy From Nowhere" (DMZ) and the workout for their two guitarists from The Turpentines, "Heading For The Texas Border," also covered by the Flamin' Groovies.

Cochise - Swallow Tales (1971)
Cochise was in existence for only three years between 1969 and 1972, but in that time we recorded three albums (a total of 28 tracks) and Mick Grabham and I went on to make solo albums for United Artists. This CD compilation contains the sixteen best tracks we recorded (in my opinion) from the three albums Cochise, Swallow Tales and So Far, including our US top 100 hit Love's Made A Fool Of You. The tracks are consecutive, and are listed under the title of each album. We were signed to United Artists records in 1969 by Andrew Lauder. Our label mates were an assorted bunch of bands that reflected Andrew's forward thinking policies – High Tide, Brinsley Schwarz, Hawkwind, Man etc. We played colleges, festivals, and places like the Roundhouse and the Marquee, and were managed by Clearwater Productions who also looked after Hawkwind and High Tide. It was altogether a very 'heady' time.
Although their first album had shown potential - It was this, the second of three albums that stands out as Cochise's "Finest Moments".
Singer Stewart Brown suddenly left the band being replaced by John Gilbert which changed the sound slightly making it a bit more Rock orientated. This album took longer and had more attention to detail put on it than the first and is generally very pleasing throughout. Steve Marriot guested on one song which was almost a hit. But, that 'almost' seemed to leave the band in 'No Man's Land' - they made one more album and all went on to happier days in other directions. I'd love to have thought that they could have became as big as the Byrds or such - But well There is still Swallow Tales to remember them.
B. J. Cole-pedal steel, guitar, dobro
Ricky Wills-bass, vocals, percussion
Willie Wilson-drums, percussion, vocals
John Gilbert-vocals
Mick Grabham-guitars & vocals

02 - Jed Collder (03:18)
03 - Down Country Girls (01:49)
04 - Home Again (03:41)
05 - Lost Hearts (03:25)
06 - Strange Images (02:03)
07 - Where I Sing The Blues (04:09)
08 - Another Day (05:16)
09 - Axiom Of Maria (07:02)
10 - Can I Break Your Heart (05:03)
11 - O Come All Ye Faithful (01:20)
By 1973 Mick Grabham had made a solo album and would join Procol Harum.
BJ Cole went on to become a popular session musician.
Rick Wills and John "Willie" Wilson played on Dave Gilmour's first solo album.
This is a 320 Vinyl rip with 2 sets of covers both at hi res but having slightly different shading.
Although they would be classified as Country Rock - I would say they were not that at all - But there is an undeniably country feel at times.

Joni Mitchell - 1974 - Miles Of Aisles (Live)
Miles of Aisles is a 1974 double live album by Joni Mitchell backed by the L.A. Express, recorded on the Court and Spark tour. The release became famous for the quality of the performances and some of Mitchell's onstage banter, particularly the "Van Gogh" speech before going into "The Circle Game." She closes the set with two new songs, "Jericho" and "Love or Money." Four years after "Big Yellow Taxi" stalled at #67 on the charts in its original studio version, the live version heard on Miles of Aisles was released as a single and reached #24 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, becoming Mitchell's third top 40 hit and continuing her commercial hot streak at the time. Miles of Aisles would reach a peak of #2 on the charts and became one of her biggest-selling records.

Garrett Lund - 1975 - Almost Grown
1 The Only Turnaround
Garrath Lund was part of the Caretakers, a band which opened before the great psychrock bands of that time. He recorded this album but no label was interested. Releasing it privately it sold with the help of radio promotion 2000 copies in less than two weeks, but still there was no label to release it officially. So after 26 years this finally is the first release.
The album can be compared to the kind of albums of singer-songwriters with a deeper concentration to the music with electric arrangements, far away from other influences and with a time taken to develop, like what John Saint Field or so did, but here with a west coast direction, and with some attention to some sweet acidic development of the electric guitar, backed by a rock band.
The voice goes from normal to higher notes, with emotional calm perspectives with closed eyes.
"Serene" has a fine production of keyboards (mellotron and electric piano by Angie Gudino).

Elizabeth was made up of Steve Weingart (lead guitar, harp, organ, vocals), Bob Patterson (guitar, vocals), Jim Dahme (guitar, flute, vocals), Steve Bruno (organ, bass), and Hank Ransome (drums). The band originally came from Philadelphia but moved to New York in 1968, where they recorded and released their self-titled album on Vanguard Records in 1969. The album was released with a wonderful psychedelic-styled collage sleeve that gave the record buyer an impression that the band was a baroque-styled act, yet in actuality it is fairly standard late-'60s rock. The highlights of the album are the fuzz guitar-laden track "You Should Be More Careful," the haunting soft psych of the song "Alarm Rings Five," and the final and best track on the album, "When All Else Fails." The album is rounded out by a few less than interesting good-time-styled rock tracks and has a slight jazz feel in places.

From AMG
Although they're rather mistakenly thought of a '60s garage band due to the inclusion of their fine 1965 single, "An Invitation to Cry," on the original Nuggets compilation, the Magicians were an all-around pop/rock group that also drew from folk-rock, blues and soul. They had a pretty intricate history for a short-lived act that only managed to put out four Columbia singles between 1965 and 1967. Drummer and songwriter, Alan Gordon, was playing in an interracial band, Tex & the Chex, in Greenwich Village when they were discovered by record producers Bob Wyld and Art Polhemus. Gordon had written "An Invitation to Cry" with Jimmy Woods(who was not in the band), which Gordon recorded with Tex & the Chex, then including guitarist Mike (who managed Bruce Springsteen for a while during the Boss' early career). The producers wanted a better singer and enlisted Garry Bonner to do the vocals. The resulting recording, "An Invitation to Cry," was superb moody pop/rock with a touch of blue-eyed soul, enhanced by an imaginative production highlighting ominous distorted guitar riffs, graceful tempo shifts, accomplished vocal harmonies and Bonner's anguished lead vocal.
The group, renamed the Magicians, got a deal with Columbia, but reorganized their personnel, with Appel and bassist Everett Jacobs leaving, and Village folkies, Allan "Jake" Jacobs and John Townley, coming in as replacements. The Magicians gained a following in New York by taking over as house band from the Lovin' Spoonful at the Night Owl club. In fact, Felix Pappalardi, future Cream producer and Mountain man, wanted to join them as bassist. They never did come up with another song on the order of "An Invitation to Cry," though, on their two 1966 Columbia singles, which showed an eclectic group conversant with both folk-rock (covering two songs by David Blue) and sophisticated pop-rock. They managed to get a segment on the local CBS television program Eye on New York -- unusually heavy exposure for a group without a hit or album -- but the follow-up singles stiffed. They did some unissued recordings in 1966, but the band never did put out an LP, and around mid 1966, Townley and Jacobs both left.
One subsequent flop single did appear on Columbia in early 1967, with some other musicians helping Bonner, Gordon, and Townley (who played guitar on the A-side, although he was no longer officially in the group). Bonner and Gordon were at this time becoming successful pop/rock songwriters for other artists, particularly the Turtles, for whom they composed "Happy Together," "She'd Rather Be with Me," "You Know What I Mean" and "She's My Girl." A Magicians CD, containing the four singles and some unissued demos and outtakes from the '60s, appeared in 1999.

Alkatraz - Doing A Moonlight (1976)
They sound very similar to the Neutrons (Another Man related band) although the songs have more Guitar than the Neutrons had, some songs remind me of Thin Lizzy too (another band I love). If you look back you'll maybe remember that in 1976 this kind of music was being rejected in favour of the Clash the Sex Pistols and the Damned.

03 - Zen Cookies
04 - Nito Bendito
05 - The Ounze That Jack Built
06 - Maybe Monday
07 - Nobody Like You
08 - Every Night And day / Ti Jean
09 - Dedicated To Jack Kerouac
I only found 1 reference to the band on the Net and that was on a Man Band history page which said this:
Meanwhile, after his stint in The Neutrons, Will Youatt joined up with his ex-Quicksand partner James Davies to found Alkatraz, a fabulous and all too short-lived band who we'd hoped would carry the Welsh rock flag into the eighties. Their one release, Doing A Moonlight, is a really superb example of intelligent and well-executed guitar based rock.
Included are 2 Bonus tracks taken from a BBC Radio 1 broadcast 2 years before the album was released when they toured as support act to the Man Band. They sound very different then and more like straight Hard Rock .

The Death Of Don Quixote
Side 2:
Jazz Is Love, It's Only You, Echoes of "You", Dream Weaver,
Seed Of Love, The Fox
Ray Levin - piano, organ, bass, flute
Mark Coplon - vocals
Billy Mooney - drums
Peter Pollack - guitar
All the songs on the album were written by Ray Levin and arranged by the band.
Garage punk combo the Little Boy Blues were formed in 1964 by singer/guitarist Lowell Shyette, lead guitarist Paul Ostroff, bassist Ray Levin, and drummer James Boyce, all of them students at the University of Illinois at Chicago. After honing a repertoire consisting primarily of Chicago blues classics and early rock & roll hits, the group was approached by the local IRC label to make a record, albeit on the condition they abandon their bluesy sound in favor of a more commercial, British Invasion-inspired approach. The Little Boy Blues agreed and in 1965 issued the Shyette-penned "Love for a Day," a major hit on Chicago radio that earned the band opening gigs for acts including the Rolling Stones, the Lovin' Spoonful, and the Association. Second vocalist Billy McColl was typically recruited for live dates, also appearing on their sophomore single, "I'm Ready" -- a cover of the Willie Dixon tune recorded in the Little Boy Blues' increasingly aggressive and noisy style, it was another local hit.
Their fuzz-punk approach reached its apotheosis on the follow-up, a blistering reading of the garage staple "I Can Only Give You Everything" -- already a Chicagoland favorite thanks to their weekly appearances at the popular nightspot the Like Young, the single appeared ready to launch the Little Boy Blues to national fame after they appeared on the Dick Clark television series Where the Action Is, but in September 1966 Shyette was drafted into Army duty, crippling the band's momentum. Singer Frank Biner was tapped as Shyette's replacement, and after leaving IRC for the Ronko label, the Little Boy Blues issued their fourth single, the 1967 acid punk classic "The Great Train Robbery" -- as the year wore on the group moved further into psychedelia, playing at local "be-ins" and headlining at Chicago counterculture clubs like the Cheetah and the Electric Playground.
The change in musical direction did not please McColl or Ostroff, both of whom left the band -- guitarist Peter Pollack was eventually hired on around the time the Little Boy Blues signed to record an LP for major label Mercury, but midway through recording both Biner and Boyce quit over creative differences. Singer Marc Coplon and drummer Bill Mooney were hastily recruited to complete the album, a disappointing patchwork effort released in 1968 under the title In the Woodland of Weir. The Little Boy Blues continued for about a year before disbanding.

D.R. Hooker Band - Armageddon
Side One
Side Two
The D.R. Hooker Band: "Armageddon" 1979, USA/On Records 40725. This is not the 80s repressing, it's the 1979 original pressed and distributed by D.R. himself! Incredibly rare private second LP recorded in 1974 has a more elaborate prog sound than his legendary "The Truth" debut from 1972 but still has a living room feel.
Enjoy
Tangerine Peel - Soft Delights

Αν και δεν έχουν κυκλοφορήσει ακόμα το πρώτο επίσημο άλμπουμ έχουν ήδη κάνει αίσθηση στην drum and bass σκηνή της Αγγλίας χάρη στις ζωντανές εμφανίσεις τους δίπλα στα μεγαλύτερα ονόματα του χώρου, και όχι μόνο, όπως οι Fabio and Grooverider, Dillinja, 808 State, Pendulum, Roni Size and Dynamite MC, Ed Rush, Optical, London Break Beat Orchestra, Mo Foe, Blackout, Zion Train.Στην Ελλάδα παίζουν για πρώτη φορά.

Bonzo Dog Band - 1968 - The Doughnut in Granny's Greenhouse
http://Bonzo_Dog_Band_-_The_Doughnut_s_in_Granny_s_Greenhouse.rar
Taking the "Doo Dah" out of their name for this 1968 LP, the Bonzos' second album was probably their best. Although they were hardly a rock or pop group in the traditional sense, the Bonzos couldn't help absorbing some of the vibes of British psychedelia, and the heady ambience of the era is reflected in the recklessly diverse and outrageous material. Almost all of the songs were penned by the two top dogs, Viv Stanshall and Neil Innes, who deflate British blues, psychedelia, and other pop, jazz, and music hall styles with priceless wit. Star tracks on this saxophone-heavy album include the doo wop ode to a spacegirl ("Beautiful Zelda"), "Trouser Press" (which gave the late American underground rock magazine its name), the droll series of poker-faced spoken sketches on "Rhinocratic Oaths" (certainly an influence on Monty Python), and the boozy "My Pink Half of the Drainpipe," which ranks as one of the most ridiculous and hysterical songs released by a pop group of any era.
